Fall Fair Trade Fundraiser

Fair Trade chocolate, coffee, tea and more from Equal Exchange.

Little River Community School announces the start of an Equal Exchange Fair Trade Fundraiser (www.equalexchange.coop/fair-trade) to benefit LRCS's Scholarship Fund and help keep small-scale farmers on their land.   From October 16th - November 3rd family and community members can purchase Equal Exchange organic coffee, tea, chocolate and snacks, which will benefit organized small-scale farmers from Latin America, Africa, Asia and the U.S. while also supporting the Little River Community School (LRCS).

While most school fundraisers benefit only local communities, this project has a much more expansive purpose. Equal Exchange Fund raising gets more money from each sale into the hands of organized family farmer co-operatives, empowering them to make investments in their land, in education and in improved social services for their communities.

LRCS wanted a fund raising opportunity that would benefit the scholarship fund while also directly benefiting the farmers and families who produce the goods. Equal Exchange makes it possible to enjoy coffee, teas and chocolate while ensuring the farmers are making a fair wage and their communities are getting the support they need to be sustainable. LRCS's scholarship fund benefits all students who need financial assistance and are interested in attending a small, community school .

LRCS will be doing classroom lessons about Fair Trade. Students will explore the benefits of purchasing items (that are not produced locally) through Fair Trade Cooperatives and how this benefits farmers, their communities and the earth.

Event Date:
14 October 2009 - 3 November 2009
